UNVICTORIUS

UNVICTORIUS–by Christina Sng

Carrion sit at his window,

Curious, awaiting patiently

For death’s eventual visitation.

Time has passed,

Accelerated before his eyes.

So much to do, so little time.

But he is resigned.

He’s paid his dues

To the demons outside.

He unclasps his heart

And watches in the dark

As his black blood gushes forth.

Humanity’s won this round,

He thinks, but in the next,

Another will emerge.

She will be faster, stronger,

Wiser than he could ever be,

Commanding the will of demons

And bending the world

Into what she believes

It should be.

And then he frowns,

As the last of his blood

Flows to the ground.

He falls facedown,

Unvictorious, he

Who failed to wear the crown.
